Is God Real? The Decider vs. The Seeker

A great majority of souls fall into one of two categories: decider, or seeker.

The Decider

The Decider stands in his or her own authority and “figures out” if there is a God. He consults books and teachers and considers all manner of things in the world to weigh the question.

The Decider forms in his mind the idea of what this God will be and act like, and measures his conclusion against this ideal. Therefore, the answer ultimately comes from within that soul.

The Decider’s stance is, “I decide if you exist, God.”

The Seeker

The Seeker has no such confidence in his ability to figure God out. Instead, he humbly says, “I cannot on my own be the decider of God’s existence. I may consult others about the existence of God, but no human being’s opinion should be the final word. God, if he exists, should be able to reveal Himself to me.”

Thus the Seeker says, “Lord, if you are real, if you indeed are my creator, open my eyes to see you and my ears to hear you. Please reveal yourself to me as you want to be known. I am listening and waiting.”

God promises the seeking heart will find Him.

God spoke to an ordinary man named Jeremiah, whose conversations with God made it into the Bible. God told him to tell people,

You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you,’ declares the LORD… Jeremiah 29:13-14, NASB

You do not have to work hard to find God. Seeking Him means simply that you empty your heart of pre-conceived ideas about God, and honor His possible existence by inviting Him to reveal his beauty, wisdom, power and glory, free of the arrogant posture of testing God to meet your expectations or ideals.

God responds to humility and honor. These cost you nothing. On the contrary, they are simple and wise choices that open the door of your heart to experience God as He really is. And according to the testimony of countless souls, such an experience is life-changing.

But don’t take their word for it. Invite God speak and act for Himself.
