Is God Real? The Decider vs. The Seeker

decider vs seeker

A great majority of souls fall into one of two categories: decider, or seeker.

The Decider

The Decider stands in his or her own authority and “figures out” if there is a God. He consults books and teachers and considers all manner of things in the world to weigh the question.

The Decider forms in his mind the idea of what this God will be and act like, and measures his conclusion against this ideal. Therefore, the answer ultimately comes from within that soul.

The Decider’s stance is, “I decide if you exist, God.”

Familiarity With God

father and son walking on railroad tracks

Over many years of ministry and through publishing several books, I’ve become aware of the potential to offend some folks by claiming a certain familiarity with God.

I do teach, speak and write as if I know Him — who He is, what He wants, what He is saying. I know it stretches boundaries of belief for some, who cannot imagine such familiarity except in those who are more spiritually important and powerful than me, a simple layman and redeemed child of God. I am not remotely close to the likes of Peter, John, James, or Paul. I get it. It’s a stretch for some. But it is my genuine experience of God.

Are You Curious About God?

curious about god

You should be. God is the most fascinating, wonderful, wise, faithful being ever. If you are curious about God, you should stop every other pursuit for a season, and discover Him for yourself.

But I get it — I was once that person who held God at arm’s length — for fear He would ruin my pleasure in life. If he existed at all. At times, I wasn’t sure about that either, though the sheer beauty and brilliance of the created world we live in kept me from settling into full-on atheism.

Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and trust in the Lord

Psalm 4:5

There are times when a Bible verse grabs hold of you and won’t let go. You just can’t read past it, even if you’ve done so many times before.

That’s the Holy Spirit, your personal helper in all things concerning walking with God, saying, “Let’s park here for awhile; I have some things to teach you.” What follows is what the Spirit taught me when He pulled me aside for our lesson on sacrifices of righteousness.

What Spirit Will You Choose?

All mankind on earth possess a spirit — the invisible part of them which reflects their soul, and animates the heart and mind. The spirit in all humans, once created, is eternal. Meaning that when the body dies, the spirit lives on. Every eternal spirit must spend its eternity somewhere, and that somewhere is pre-chosen by the person before their body dies.

God alone, the sovereign creator and ruler of all things, has the right to decide where you will spend your eternal life. In a brilliant affirmation of His commitment to freedom, He gave you the choice. That’s the good news. The bad news, it is a binary choice. The good news is that you can choose to spend eternity with God in His magnificent kingdom, or you can choose NOT to be with Him.

The Mystery of Being Seated With Christ

There is no shortage of mysteries to ponder in God’s Word! Heavenly things and invisible things are always mysterious to earthlings staring at a toaster. The Friendliness of God

friendliness of god

“Go fix your tea, sweet and creamy, just like you like it.”

I wasn’t expecting to hear that when I sat down to “be still with God.”

After some weeks of busyness and restlessness, I was determined to return to stillness with God on this chilly February morning, not even reaching for the worship playlist on my iPhone. I dimmed the lights so I wouldn’t even be tempted to read my Bible. I just needed to be with God, to rediscover the wonderful rest I have found with Him in past times.
